A primary school in the Banburyshire area has been praised by education inspectors for making great improvements after a worrying Ofsted report last year.

In September 2019, inspectors described Kings Sutton Primary School as 'inadequate in all aspects including governance and the safeguarding of pupils'.

But after a monitoring visit in February, Ofsted said they are happy that staff and leaders 'are taking effective action'. The school has been allowed to share the results this week.

The visit recognised the hard work that has been done by the school community and acknowledged that 'there was a clear and systematic plan in place to improve the school further’.

The Ofsted inspector said: "The inspection was the first monitoring inspection since the school became subject to special measures following the inspection that took place in June 2019.

"Having considered all the evidence I am of the opinion that at this time leaders and managers are taking effective action towards the removal of special measures."

They also said that the trust’s statement of action and the school’s improvement plan are both fit for purpose.

The report added: "Having considered all the evidence I am of the opinion that the school may appoint newly qualified teachers."

The school has now appointed Nicola Kent as the new headteacher.

She said: "This is such a positive report that demonstrates the hard work and commitment that is taking place at the school.

"It is such a special school community and I am excited about leading the school on the next stage of its journey."

Rachel Gallyot, acting CEO Prime7 Trust, said: "We are now delighted that the school has appointed a new headteacher to continue the school’s journey back to 'Good'.

"Nicola Kent joins the school as an experienced leader and is ready to continue the rapid journey of school improvement."
