Tributes have been paid to Castle Pre-school after it announced it would be closing at the end of the current term after more than half a century of service to the community.

It is based at Broughton and North Newington Sports Club and parents past and present were quick to pay tribute to the team after the news broke.

In an announcement on its Facebook page yesterday, Monday, staff confirmed the closure and the sale of books, toys and equipment that could find a new home in similar settings or family homes: “It is with much sadness that after more than 50 years the Castle Pre-school will be closing it’s doors the last time at the end of the summer term in four weeks.

"There will be a sale of everything on Friday, July 1, at 2pm at the school. Some items can go immediately but some can be paid for and reserved on the day to be picked up at the end of term.

“Everything must go from books, tables, learning materials and toys. A few items will have a price but everything else will be on the basis of ‘no reasonable offer refused’.”

It shared photos of many of the items including a virtually brand new lean-to pergola with cover which would need dismantling and the wendy houses, as well as a variety of indoor items.

While there was interest in many of them, many people paid tribute to the team.

One mum’s comment summed up the feelings of many when she said: “I’m heartbroken to read this. My littlest daughter had such a wonderful time with you all… fabulous experiences, the kindest staff and lovely memories that she will take with her forever. Thank you all. Wishing you all the very best for the future.”

The summer term is due to end on Thursday, July 21. For more details of the items for sale, look for Castle Pre-School Banbury on Facebook.

We contacted the preschool to get a comment from them and will add it to the story, should they wish to comment.
