Great to donate: Radio Horton thanks Banbury shoppers

The radio station held fundraising collections at Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, and Tesco supermarkets, where shoppers were entertained with festive music and a visit from Father Christmas. The efforts raised an impressive £1,411.59 over the weekend.

These funds will be used to help Radio Horton continue to expand its charitable activities, including purchasing new internet radios to be installed around Horton General Hospital, and enhancing its programming content and quality.

Community Events Coordinator Bill Warren said: “We are incredibly grateful to the shoppers for their donations. This generous support will play a crucial role in improving the station’s output and allowing us to purchase even more wireless radios.”

Founded in 1964 by two local journalists, Radio Horton recently celebrated its 60th anniversary. As a registered charity, the station, like many hospital and health-related broadcasters across the country, receives no external funding and relies solely on the generosity of the local community, along with donations and sponsorships, to continue its operations.

The station is run entirely by volunteers who take on various roles, from presenting programmes to visiting patients and staff at the hospital, as well as assisting behind the scenes.

Warren added: “Every donation, no matter how small, helps us continue our work and make a real difference to patients, staff and the local community. Donations can be made at our events, collections, or directly through our website.”
