Temporary road closures set for Banbury's Castle Quay area as Waterfront works project continues

The road closure locations and dates are as follows:

o Cherwell Drive, between Spiceball Park Road and Concord Avenue from Wednesday July 1 to 9.

o Concord Avenue, between Castle roundabout and Concord roundabout from July 20 to 26.

Utility works are being undertaken by Lydon Contracting. There will be diversion signage in place throughout the duration of the works, both on the approach to and within the affected areas.

Cllr Lynn Pratt, lead member for economy, regeneration and property said: “As part of ongoing construction works on the Castle Quay Waterfront development, we can confirm that sections of Cherwell Drive and Concord Avenue will close temporarily during July. Further detail of these closures can be found on the Castle Quay website.

“We would like to thank the local community for their continued support during the works.

"Castle Quay Waterfront will bring an exceptional new offering for the town centre, complementing the existing shopping centre and providing the best in class for residents.

"We are excited to see Castle Quay Waterfront continue to develop and look forward to providing updates to the local community in the coming weeks."

The programme of construction works is being done in phases to minimise the impact on the community, and Cherwell District Council is working closely with the contractor to keep the community regularly informed.

The development will act as a link between the neighbouring amenities of Spiceball Leisure Centre, The Mill and the existing Castle Quay shopping centre, improving connectivity within the town centre.

When completed, the new development will transform Banbury’s Castle Quay into a new canal-side retail and leisure destination, complete with a The Light© Cinema, Lidl supermarket, Premier Inn hotel and restaurants.

The new line-up will complement the existing line-up at Castle Quay Shopping Centre, helping to attract a greater number of visitors from across the region while providing a boost to Banbury’s evening economy.

It also marks the latest milestone in ongoing works at Castle Quay ahead of the eagerly anticipated opening of phase one of Lock29 in spring. Lock29 will play host to a wide range of independent food and drink artisans and events, attractions and educational activities.
