Post Office in Banbury will be temporarily closing next month

A Post Office in Banbury will be temporarily closing next month.

The Post Office said that following the resignation of the postmaster and withdrawal of the premises for Post Office use, the branch at 56 Orchard Way will be closing temporarily on Thursday September 24 at 8pm.

Local councillor Mark Cherry said: "I hope as soon as possible the post office officials look to advertise and recruit a new postmaster as soon as possible.

"It is all worth noting that Banbury Ruscote is the second most deprived wards in all of Oxfordshire this comes on the back of the news that the local GP surgery will be closed in the alton Bradley Arcade shops.

"The community need two post offices not just one in the ward."

A Post Office spokesperson said: “The operator for Orchard Way Post Office has resigned and the branch will be temporarily closed from September 24 at 8pm.

"McColl’s, which operates the branch has made the difficult decision to close the shop.

“We understand how important a Post Office is to a community and we will continue to work to find a solution that will provide a Post Office service to the community in this area.

“In the interim alternative branches include Bradley Arcade and Ruscote.”
