Banbury town centre department store set to permanently shut
Officials have confirmed a third large department store in the Banbury town centre is set to permanently close.
A spokesperson for the Matalan department store, in Cherwell Street near the town centre of Banbury, has confirmed the store will not reopen after the lockdown.
The spokesperson said the closure of the store is unrelated to the current Covid-19 pandemic. The spokesperson said the store had already been under review for a significant period of time.
No other details about the closure were immediately available, including how many staff members will be impacted.
It becomes the third large department in the town centre of Banbury to shut within the last year.
The Debenhams department store located at the Castle Quay Shopping Centre will also not reopen after the current Covid-19 lockdown.
The Marks and Spencer food and clothing store in Bridge Street and Castle Quay Shopping Centre also closed in August 2020.
