The team at Specsavers on Bridge Street are focusing their efforts on helping those who need vital eye care during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Staff have already helped a local paramedic who had broken his specs and needed a new pair urgently so that he could continue to work. The team managed to get a new pair of specs to him the very next day.

"Alongside key workers we’ve also seen customers who need urgent eye care, as well as offering a home pickup and collect service both for specs and hearing aids, where customers need it.

"Throughout this all the team have been amazing, despite the challenges, and I’m so very grateful and proud of them all."

Specsavers' teams are classed as key workers to provide urgent and essential eye care to those who need it.

This includes supporting other key workers who couldn’t function without their help and people who would come to harm without their health expertise, especially where the usual hospital services and NHS facilities are being prioritised for the fight against Covid-19.

Customers can phone the store for advice and to be assessed on the level of care that they might need, the only exception being key workers who are able to walk in and seek immediate advice. Glasses and contact lenses can also be purchased online for customers with a current prescription.
