The School edition of this renowned musical is an adaption especially for performers aged 18 and younger.

Set in 19th century France, the show based on the novel by Victor Hugo, tells the tale of Jean Valjean who is released from years of unjust imprisonment, but finds nothing in store for him but mistrust and mistreatment.

He breaks his parole in hopes of starting a new life, initiating a life-long struggle for redemption as he is relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert, who refuses to believe Valjean can change his ways.

Dress rehearsals

Director and head of drama at Sibford School, Neil Madden, said ‘I have spent a long time considering directing this show. I first thought of doing it when I came to Sibford six years ago, however I realised it was a significant challenge in the year I began my teaching career.

"So why now? The answer is simple; the time is right. We have been developing our students and encouraged them to grow their skills and confidence over the past five years in every single show we have produced, from ‘Cabaret’ to ‘Spamalot’ and ‘Accrington Pals’.’

"Every single member of the cast, crew and staff know each other very well. It has got to the stage when students pre-empt and second guess what needs to be done and where to be. This is a fantastic joy to me to see how this happens in every single rehearsal."

The cast is comprised of over 40 students from Year 7 right through to Year 13, accompanied by an orchestra of ten with students rehearsing since last summer.

The cast also benefitted from a recent visit from Flik Swan, a West End choreographer and professional dancer, who helped to choreograph three major numbers from the show.

Tickets for Les Misérables School Edition which runs from Tuesday, March 3 until Friday, March 6 are available online via the ‘What’s on’ page on the Sbford School website priced at £8 + booking fee.

Tickets can also be purchased for £8 from the main school reception.
