A star studded cast is on tour with Grease, taking the hit 70s musical of teenage angst and young romance into theatres nationwide.
Tom Parker from The Wanted makes his musical theatre debut as Danny, the role made famous by John Travolta in the iconic film.
Tom enjoyed worldwide success with his band, achieving two UK Number One hits and nine Top Ten singles, selling out arena tours and sales of millions of records in America.
Performing alongside Tom as angelic Sandy (played in the film by Olivia Newton John) is Danielle Hope, who won the television talent show Over The Rainbow.
Danielle competed against more than 9,000 girls to win the part of Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz at the London Palladium.
And she has gone on to star in Les Miserables and The Sound of Music.
Louisa Lytton, from Strictly Come Dancing and EastEnders, plays Rizzo, leader of The Pink Ladies.
And Darren Day, who made his stage debut playing Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat in the West End and on tour internationally, returns to Grease to play Teen Angel, 17 years after playing Danny in the West End.
His many other leading West End credits include Don in Summer Holiday and Tony in Copacabana.
On tour he has also performed in Carousel, Alfie, Great Expectations, Godspell, Hello Dolly and The Rocky Horror Show.
Since Grease opened on Broadway in 1972, and the smash hit film secured iconic status in 1978, the story has seduced the hearts of millions with its back-to-back sizzling tunes.
It’s the original high school musical featuring a fabulous list of characters with Sandy, Danny, the groovy T Birds, the sassy Pink Ladies and the whole gang at Rydell High.
Set in the 1950s rock and roll era with slicked back hairstyles and bursting with denim and cheerleaders, it focuses on the summer romance of Danny and Sandy which falters somewhat when she joins his school after the holidays.
‘Cool’ Danny can’t be seen with a sweet girl like Sandy, but then things get electrifying and the show is guaranteed to have the audience hand jiving the night away with wop bop a loo bop.
The favourite songs from the film are in the stage show including You’re The One That I Want, Summer Nights, Sandy, Grease Is The Word, Greased Lightnin’ and Hopelessly Devoted to You.
Grease comes to New Theatre, Oxford, from Tuesday, March 28 - Saturday, April 1. Performance times vary.
