A show packed full of atmosphere from the Scottish highlands is coming to St Mary’s Church in Whitney.

The Highland Piper at War is presented by Middleton Cheney resident Richard Jasper at St Mary’s Church in the village on Friday November 11.

Richard said: “It’s mostly a one man show but there will be two of us performing the stuff.

“Steve White from the band I’m now in, La Phooka, will be on strings, percussion and sound.

“We go way back as he was also a pipe band drummer.

“I’m hoping to highlight the plight of the war-time piper as apposed to the novelty entertainment value genre it is now sometimes is seen as.”

Steve Duffy and his son Robert will feature a little as both are/were very recent war-time-pipers.

Steve Duffy is a retired DI from Banbury Police but is Scottish and he was at the Falklands in the Scots Guards.

He does lots of ‘celebrity’ appearances piping. whenever they need someone for a big event, they call Steve to provide that haunting pipes sound.

It will be mostly music but will feature a smattering of history about piping.

The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets cost £8.
