The Theatre, Chipping Norton is celebrating its 40th anniversary with some imaginative programming.
Chippy Theatre has been open for 40 years to the day on Saturday, June 14 and to mark this special occasion it throws open its doors and invites all guests to an imaginative look behind the scenes.
Hosted by the Scary Little Girls (the creators of In the Footsteps of the Mitfords and Sonnet Walks) the afternoon takes the form of a treasure hunt with a twist.
The audience can expect performances in unexpected places, lights and sound in action, the work of JK Rowling and AA Milne in the attic and surprises all the way.
All treasure hunters will receive a goody bag and there will also be tea and cakes.
Treasure hunts will take place at 11am and 1pm. The event is suitable for ages seven and up and tickets are £5.
In the evening, the theatre is letting its hair down with a very special party night as chairs will be removed to create the perfect dance floor for the acclaimed soul and disco band Lovetrain. Partygoers can expect hits from The Jacksons, Stevie Wonder and Sister Sledge and many more in a spectacular night to remember when the theatre will be decorated in a 70s theme. Guests are encouraged to dress for a 70s party and there will be a prize for the best dressed. Tickets are £25, with all profits going to the theatre’s Forty Year Fund.
Helen Datson, theatre fundraising officer, said: “We’re so lucky to have had a theatre in Chippy for the past 40 years – it’s unique in a community this size and an amazing achievement and we can’t wait to celebrate!
“The theatre is really buzzing with excitement as we gear up for our big 40th birthday celebration night.”
To continue the celebrations – and to pay tribute to the genre which has been a constant success – the theatre is also arranging a Summer Panto Chaos on July 5 and 6.
It is attempting to write, rehearse and perform a 60-minute pantomime within a single 48-hour period with all the great panto stories uniting in a daft and desperately chaotic one-off celebration of all things panto.
