MEMBERS of Banbury's military units marched through the town on Saturday as part of the newly-established Armed Forces Day.
The recognition for those on active service replaces Veterans' Day and is designed to raise awareness and appreciation for those on active duty.

Banbury-based Territorial Army unit 5th Queen's Own Oxfordshire Hussars Signal Squadron led the way through High Street.

They were joined by members of Banbury Air Training Corps, Banbury Army Cadets and Banbury District Sea Cadets.

Banbury Town Council civic officer Tricia Campbell said: "Hundreds of people turned out for it – it was brilliant to see people supporting the Armed Forces.

"People were clapping as the soldiers came down High Street. It's a good idea to establish the day to raise the profile of active forces."

Teachers and pupils also gathered around a flagpole at Banbury School on Friday to watch the hoisting of an Armed Forces flag.

Members of the military's youth cadet groups marched through the school grounds before standing to attention to watch the flag raising.
