Round seals victory in final race of the series

Steve Round sealed the Vet 40-45 category in the East Midlands Grand Prix Series on Tuesday.

The Banbury Soles’ runner finished second in the final fixture of the eight-race series in Tuesday’s Milton Keynes 10km race. Round also ran a new personal best of 36 minutes and 55 seconds for the 10k distance in Tuesday’s race.

Runners from across Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire, Leicestershire and Bedfordshire compete in the series which has now been going for more than 15 years.

Round produced top-three finishes in five of the eight races, winning the Weedon 10k and finishing second in his home race, the Banbury Five earlier this month.

He also came third in the Blisworth Five and second in the Harborough Five.

Phil Coy came third in the Vet 60 category.

The Banbury Harrier came third in the Banbury Five, second in the Weedon 10k, fourth at Rugby, Corby and Harborough, fifth at Blisworth and sixth at Milton Keynes.

Dan Peabody came 42nd in the Senior Men’s category.

The Cherwell Runners & Joggers’ member produced his best run when he was 14th at Rugby.

Brackley & District’s Tessa Gunson came 13th in the Senior Women’s category.
