The German driver won Sunday’s Russian Grand Prix for Mercedes AMG Petronas but his Brackley team-mate Lewis Hamilton suffered more problems before coming home in second place.

Rosberg said: “If you have a car like this, you are really able to push to the limits. Lewis drove really well to come back up to second so quickly.

“The only down side to the weekend was to see that reliability is becoming a bit of a concern as Lewis obviously has a problem yesterday and both cars had issues during the race.

“But we have a great team behind us and I’m fully confident that we will sort this out. It’s unbelievable to go into the European races with four wins and I really look forward to Barcelona now.”

Haas F1 driver Romain Grosjean drove to a strong eighth-place finish at the Sochi Autodrom.

It was Grosjean’s third point-scoring result in the four races for the new Banbury team, as he climbed to seventh in the driver standings. Team-mate Esteban Gutiérrez finished 17th.

Grosjean said: “It’s great to be back in the points, especially after a very difficult weekend where we were never very happy with the car. It was a good first lap to avoid all the incidents. There are still so many things we can improve on the car.

“I’m still not 100 per cent happy with the behaviour, I think for the next race it’s going to be so much better. It’s very positive knowing that we have something that will become better.”

Kevin Magnussen came seventh for Renault F1 while Enstone team-mate Jolyon Palmer was 13th.
