RAW on podium as Tilley takes a brace of seconds

Banbury based RAW Motorsports finished on the podium in both Ginetta GT4 Supercup races at Snetterton, with Grahame Tilley finishing second in the amateur class in both races.

Tilley had qualified 11th overall at the Norfolk circuit, second in his class for the opening race of the weekend, but still had championship leader Colin White in front of him.

In the first race, Tilley was held up behind two cars which allowed White to make a decisive escape.

“When I finally got clear I had already lost him, he wasn’t a lot quicker but it was enough,” he said after finishing eighth overall and a clear second in class.

With the second race grid formed from the finishing order, White once again had the legs of Tilley as the lights went out.

“He was just so quick, and when I realised I wasn’t going to catch him, I looked at the gap I had over third place and decided to back off and save tyres, for the third and final race,” he explained.

But a crash in the preceding British Touring Car race caused the cancellation of the finale.

Tilley added: “It was so frustrating for me. I had sat down with Rob and he had gone through a plan and really got me pumped up for the race, plus we made a few a few changes to the car. I was ready to go out there and have a go at White, only for it to be cancelled.

“I am sure the changes we have made and the plans too will make a difference next time. But my aim for the season now is to beat White once at least.

“I have done it on paper, but only after he had been off, so it doesn’t really count.”

The cancelled race however has been added to the programme at Knockhill later this month, where there will now be four races.
