Niall Ledbury and Magdalena Olsztynska are through to Sunday’s England Boxing National Development Championship finals at Grantham.

Banbury Boxing Club’s junior middle-weight Ledbury was up against the tall Gosport BC boxer Mateusz Bereznicki in his semi-final.

Although Bereznicki had the superior reach, Ledbury’s light footwork and a series of well timed, snappy jabs claimed the first round.

Bereznicki continued to try and smother Ledbury’s cleaner, more accurate work with a lot of clinches but he edged the second round. Bereznicki tried to tire Ledbury in the third round.

But the judges scored in favour of Ledbury who will face North of England champion Tom Healey from Macclesfield on Sunday.

Team-mate, senior female welter-weight Olsztynska produced a first round demolition of Rossanna Allen from Essex University in her semi-final.

Olsztynska delivered several unanswered straight body shots. Trying to close the range, Allen was caught by Olsztynska’s solid hooks and uppercuts, forcing a standing eight count before a TKO ended the bout.

Olsztynska will box North of England champion Cara Mole from Gateshead on Sunday.
