United pay the penalty

DESPITE getting off to the perfect start, Banbury United went down 3-1 at Chesham United in Saturday’s Evo-Stik League Southern clash.

Tom Lorraine gave United a third minute lead in the premier division contest, converting Kynan Isaac’s cross. But the lead only lasted two minutes as Chris Watters soon put the hosts back on level terms.

United had the ideal chance to regain the lead in the 31st minute when Isaac was brought down in the area but Adeyinka Talabi’s ensuing spot-kick was superbly saved by Shane Gore.

Two goals in six minutes from Toby Little just before the break turned the game Chesham’s way. The unmarked Little shot Chesham into a 2-1 lead in the 39th minute and a minute before the break he grabbed his second goal, heading home James Potton’s cross at the far post.

The second half was much more of a non-event, depite United’s hard work they were unable to seriously trouble Gore who saw a couple of long range efforts miss the target while Talabi’s glancing header also went wide.
