Stein: Defensive errors cost us

BANBURY United boss Edwin Stein admitted that his side were naive following the 2-1 defeat against Barwell at Spencer Stadium.

Jamie Towers struck twice early on before Ryan Plowright reduced the arrears in Saturday’s Evo-Stik League Southern clash at Spencer Stadium. But, despite creating a couple of chances in the second half, United found it difficult to get back into the premier division contest.

Stein said: “Barwell were the wrong side to give a two-goal start to. Our defending early on was poor, we didn’t clear our lines for the first goal and the second goal was an horrendous one to concede.

“We were trying play a high line at the wrong time but we had to change the central defence around again and this time it cost us.

“They were a spoiling team, niggly and very good at breaking play up. But credit to Barwell though, they exploited the situation. Their away record is very good and you can see why.”
