Gainsborough moved up to tenth in the table thanks to Darryn Stamp’s second half winner but Saints remain outside the drop zone after climbing out following Saturday’s success at Tamworth.

In a lively start to the game, both sides had chances with Stamp almost scoring an own goal under pressure from a Saints’ corner. Glenn Walker tested Jan Budtz from the edge of the box before Steve Diggin broke down the left and crossed for David Moyo who headed wide at the far post.

Trinity had a couple of chances, Stamp forced Sam Hornby into action with a volley before Craig Reid was denied by the Saints keeper late in the first half.

The only goal arrived ten minutes after the interval when on-loan Sheffield Wednesday full-back Courtney Wildin crossed for veteran striker Stamp to head home at the far post.

Saints went close when Moyo dragged his shot wide while Matt Lowe turned well in the box and forced Budtz to save at his near post. Trinity also had chances, Jamie Yates and Steve Brogan exchanged passes to set up Simon Russell who saw his chip go over the bar before Reid was thwarted by Hornby who then denied Jonathan D’Laryea.
