Saints must keep it going to the end of the campaign

With Corby Town and Hednesford Town looking doomed, it now looks a straight fight betwen Saints and Lowestoft Town to see who fills the final relegation spot.

But if Saints do retain their Vanarama National League North status they will need more performances like Saturday’s with third-placed Fylde at St James Park starting with this weekend’s trip to Gloucester City.

Saints remain out of the relegation zone on goal difference thanks to Saturday’s point and a clean sheet but it could have been all three had they shown more composure in the box.

But the second half appearance of Steve Diggin was a boost and the top scorer will surely play a big part in his side’s survival bid now that he’s back from injury.

Wilkin said: “I want to see that type of effort from the players, so do the board and the supporters.

“We had that at Boston and we had it again against Fylde, we need to see that all the way to the end of the season and hopefully we will be okay.

“We’ve done well against the top teams, we only just lost against Nuneaton, we’ve beaten Boston and played Harrogate off the park before losing to a soft goal.

“Apart from the Solihull game, we’ve been competitive in every one against teams in and around the play-offs.

“We’ve got five games left and we’ve got to try and win every single one of them. As long as the players show that desire and passion we should get to where we want to be.”
