Banbury United boss Mike Ford is challenging his players to take the next step.

Following the Emirates FA Cup exit, the Puritans bounced back to beat Cirencester Town in a penalty shoot-out in Tuesday’s Evo-Stik Southern League Cup tie.

Okay means you win one, draw one and lose one, and you finish mid-table

Now they face two premier division games in three days against Biggleswade Town and Cambridge City.

Ford said: “I asked the players after Tuesday’s game how they had done and they thought ‘okay’ but I told them ‘okay isn’t good enough’.

“Okay means you win one, draw one and lose one and you finish mid-table. I’ve challenged these players to go to any team, or down here, and have the possibility of winning every game.”

Looking back on Tuesday’s penalty shoot-out success, Ford added: “We should have won 1-0 so we need to do a bit of work on defensive play.

“But all in all, it’s been a pretty good night for us and now we’ll have a nice light session on Thursday.”
