A late goal from Josh Northam was enough to see Easington Sports move into the next round of the Bluefin Sports Hellenic League Cup.

Sports beat Milton United in Saturday’s first round tie and kept a clean sheet for the first time this season.

It was a poor game overall, not helped by atrocious playing conditions of driving end to end wind and rain.

Sports attacked down the slope with the beneficial conditions but in truth, the first half lacked real quality with a lot of passes skidding through or away making it easy for Milton to defend. Sports were limited to a few half chances overall all in the match with better attempts coming mainly in the second half.

The introduction of Jack Welch and Tom Smith just after the hour mark was significant and with better quality on the ball, Sports were able to hit on the break. The winner came when Northam controlled a through pass before rounding the keeper and finishing from a narrow angle with a defender helping the ball into the net.

Sports entertain Clanfield 85 in Saturday’s Division One West clash at Addison Road with Ben Milner and Mike Spaull returning to the squad.
