Ingram earns Ardley a point in the opener

Luke Ingram earned Ardley United a point from Saturday’s UHLSport Hellenic League opener at Binfield.

Honours and premier division points were deservedly shared in an entertaining game at Stubbs Lane in Saturday’s 1-1 draw.

The hosts had the first chance when Josh Howell fired Brad Brown’s cross over the bar and Ardley’s first chance came courtesy of Troy Bryan whose overhead kick was just saved by keeper Nathan Silver. Binfield were further indebted to Silver as he managed to beat away a shot from Reece Bayliss following a free-kick.

Just before the break, a left wing cross found Brown in space in the box but his glancing header was saved by keeper Jack Goode.

After the restart, both sides had early chances, Bayliss had a shot saved by Silver before Khalid Senussi fired wide following a free-kick. Binfield broke the deadlock in the 49th minute when Senussi managed to get the ball through to Jemel Johnson at the third attempt and, although Goode did his best, the Ardley defenders allowed him to fire the ball into the net.

Ardley had their chances through Ingram, who hit a post and Bryan whose header went just over the bar. Johnson again found himself clear in the box but Goode was equal to the challenge before Ingram equalised in the 78th minute when he outpaced the Binfield back line to beat Silver.

Bayliss was a continual threat and had a shot by Silver from an acute angle but in stoppage-time Reid Brown and Howell could not keep their shots on target.
