Form will count for nothing in play-off final says Ford

Despite his side's excellent form of late, Banbury United boss Mike Ford says that will count for nothing in Monday's Evo-Stik Southern League play-off final.

The Puritans entertain Taunton Town in the Division One South & West final at Spencer Stadium where Ford is expecting a tough test.

United’s recent form has been excellent, six straight wins and seven clean sheets, but Ford says that goes out of the window in one-off games.

He said: “Our form has been solid coming into the play-offs but I don’t think that gives us any advantage. When you get to a final it means you have won your last game and that’s the same for both teams.

“At the end of 90 minutes, or extra-time, one team will be in the premier division and the other team will be very disappointed. That was our seventh clean sheet in a row and that security at the back gives you the platform to try and win the game.

“We’ve got to take a deep breath, we’ll train on Saturday and look forward to Monday’s game. We don’t need to work on our shape, that was good on Tuesday, but we need to manage things better.”
