Banbury United entertain UCL outfit Wellingborough Town in their final friendly on Saturday and on the same day Brackley Town welcome fellow Conference club Oxford City.

The Puritans drew 2-2 at Thame United on Tuesday with Mark Bell and Zac McEachran on target but manager Mike Ford was not impressed by his side’s display.

Ford said: “Good players may go from 8/10 to 6/10 from one game to the next but not from 9/10 down to 4/10, which was the case at Thame.

“That’s disappointing for them but not for me because it makes my job in picking the team to play Basingstoke on the opening day a lot easier. Some played themselves out of contention but others played themselves into contention.”

And one of those players could be Mark Janes, last season’s top scorer for Didcot Town, who netted twice against Hednesford Town on Saturday.

On Thursday, Saints entertain MK Dons who are likely to include Giorgio Rasulo in their squad. The former Warriner student scored a cracker against Everton in Tuesday’s 3-1 defeat by the Premier League outfit.
