Mobley produces best run at Stafford
Tory Mobley produced the individual performance of the day for Banbury Harriers in Saturday’s Midland Cross Country Championships at Stafford where there was another excellent performance by the club’s under-13 girls.
Mobley produced her best run of the winter in the girl’s under-17’s race on the heavilly snow-covered course with ice and mud adding to the testing conditions.
She finished strongly over what would normally be a fast course over Stafford Common in an excellent eighth place. Team-mate Riara Woodley who came home in 42nd place from the 100 starters.
Five under-13 girls started in the field of 140 and each one produced solid performances.
The best run came from Oxfordshire’s county champion Tia Williams, who again came up trumps in 26th place.
She will return next year in this age group and should be a strong contender for honours.
Next home was Rosie Lord, who was taken ill in the county race, but this time she was able to deliver a good run, finishing 49th, and three places behind her came Emily Thompson.
The other two girls also ran well, with Flora Ayres finishing 62nd and Issy Pougatch 70th to give the club sixth place overall of the 25 teams.
The senior race saw Oxon county champion Fran Briscoe in Coventry Godiva colours finish third of the close to 200 starters.
Ros Kelling again battled well with the younger runners to finish 54th.
Behind her also running well was Caitlin Bradley in 74th place.
Two boys ran in the under-15’s race.
Gregor Kelling finished 64th of the 100 plus starters and in the under-13’s race Blaine Carpenter was 53rd of also 100 plus.
