Harriers trio well placed in UK rankings

BANBURY Harriers received the ideal Christmas gift when the British Athletic rankings were published nationally.

Three of the clubs members established places in the top ten places of their particular event. In the senior age groups Perris Wilkins gained two mentions with the discus.

Early in the season Wilkins winged the discus at Corby in a Midland League fixture to a distance of 50.70 metres. Despite being injured in training, his early season throw was still sufficient to place him 20th in the UK at senior level and second overall in the veteran age group.

The other two members, Helen Dubber and Rebecca Scott, are both members of arguably the strongest under-13 girl squad the club has ever had. Dubber achieved eighth position in the 70 metre hurdles in late September at Biggleswade with a time of 11.7 seconds.

In this event, the club had no fewer than four members in the top 100, which equalled most other clubs in the UK.

The three other girls were Sophia Daenen in 41st place, Paige Cooper in 58th place and Scott in 86th.

Scott also gained her top ten placing in the high jump with a clearance of 1.53 metres at Horspath in May at the county championships.
