BANBURY United produced an improved performance at Rugby Town to make it five points our of nine as they maintained their unbeaten start to the BGB Southern League campaign.
After a slow start to the premier division clash, United went close in the 19th minute when Lewis Travers cut inside two defenders and unleashed a 25-yard shot which keeper Andrew Stevens turned round the post for a corner.

In the 34th minute Nick
y Gordon used his strength and speed to force his way into the danger area but his shot was just wide.

Straight after the break, United had to be on their guard when Rugby forced them back on defence. But United again took control and were unfortunate in the 50th minute when Craig Pearman saw his 20-yard effort tipped over the bar by Stevens.

Within 60 seconds, it was Rugby's turn to go close when a Tommy Kinch backpass fell short and David Kolodynski nipped in to lob the ball over the stranded Joe Murrell but the ball bounced in front of goal and sailed over the bar.

The best chance of the game arrived in the 58th minute when Travers slipped the ball through to put Scott Bridges clear and although he cleverly wrong-footed Stevens he fired into the side netting.
United had enough chances to win the game comfortably but they again failed to look dangerous enough up front to trouble the home defence unduly.

Although United did not take maximum points there may positives from the game. The form of Joe Murrell in goal improves with every game, Ben Milner was dominant at the back, not missing a header throughout and Lewis Travers covered nearly every inch of the pitch.

UTD: Murrell, Stringfellow (Peppiatt 90), Kinch, Essex, Milner, Pearman, Travers, Breward, Gordon, Scott Bridges (Bryan 77), Stanbridge (Stuart Bridges 81). Not used: Drummond, Howkins.
Att: 257
