BANBURY'S hopes of closing the gap on Home Counties Premier League leaders Henley ended in frustration.
Their division one clash with Welwyn Garden City at White Post Road was abandoned with the visitors chasing Banbury's impressive 290-6 when the game ended in the 26th over.

Openers Damian Shirazi 67 and Ian Tew 69 gave Banbury a solid start while Craig Haupt 47, Simon Hole 57 and Shahbaz Ali 21 all made useful contributions.

Luke Ryan (3-16) claimed the opening three batsmen to put the brakes on Welwyn's reply but, with the visitors on 110-3, the game came to a premature end.
