BANBURY travel to Tring Park on Saturday looking to make up ground on leaders Henley in the Home Counties Premier League.
And captain Ian Hawtin knows his side will have to get over the frustration of seeing last week's excellent batting performance go unrewarded.

Any hopes Banbury had of closing the gap, or even leapfrogging division one leaders Henley, were ended p
rematurely at White Post Road, where a heavy downpour put a dampener on proceedings.

"It was very frustrating, especially after such a good batting performance," said Hawtin.

"We were in a strong position and I might have declared had we got to the 300-mark earlier in the innings.

"But I knew Welwyn had some decent batsmen who would go for their shots and I couldn't risk not getting a big score to defend.

"It was even more disappointing to see Henley go further away from us but we are still in second place at the halfway point."

Chris Smith returns in place of the unavailable Ian Tew for the trip to Tring Park and Ashley Blanchard also comes into the squad.

Banbury host the three-day Minor Counties Western Division fixture between Oxon and Wales this weekend.

The match starts on Sunday and is due to end on Tuesday. Several Banbury players will be in action, along with the county's record-breaking wicket taker Keith Arnold, of Banbury Twenty.
