IAIN and Roger Weir head to Germany this wekend to represent Great Britain in the Flatwater Canoe international in Bochum.
The brothers were part of a small team of Banbury's elite junior paddlers braved the appaling conditions at the National Water Sport centre, Nottingham for the June Sprint Regatta last weekend.

In the canoe events, where the athlete kneels in the
boat, the Wier brothers proved they are at the top of their sport.

In normal conditions the canoes are difficult to steer but Iain and Roger Weir battled with the torrential rain to complete the course in the qualifying times for international selection.

In the Flatwater Kayaking events it was Banbury's junior girls who dominated the races.

In girls A race Laura Ferguson partnered Sarah Beer from Royal to take fourth place in K2 and second in the K4.

Sophie Rooney had an excellent race in girls B taking first place in 500m k1 and gaining a well deserved promotion to girls A. Megan Wood and Alice Murphy coped well with conditions in girls C with Wood finishing second in final two.

By the time girls D 500m was on the water conditions had deteriorated so much that Kathryn Stone, while waiting for her race to start, looked around to find she was the only girl left upright in her boat.

Unperturbed she took to the water again for the 1000m taking a credited first place in final one. Natasha Mclean performed well in crew boats.
Julian Stone and Matthew Mclean gave a solid performance in boys B K4 500m taking second place. Jonathon Palfrey racing for the first time showed great promise in boys D finishing second in final two.
