GARY Boyd tees-off today (Thursday) in one of the world's most prestigious golf tournaments – the British Open at Royal Birkdale.
Boyd will be bidding to make the cut for the final two rounds and begins his first Open today alongside South Africa's Thomas Aiken and Australia's Bradley Lamb. The trio are due to tee-off at 11.10am today and 4.21pm tomorrow (Friday).

Although t
he Middleton Cheney star will be slightly disappointed not to have been paired up with one of golf's better known players, it means he will have the chance to tee-off without any added pressure.

"I'm pretty happy with the draw, I've come across Thomas Aiken at tournaments before but not Bradley Lamb," said Boyd.

"I was never really going to get drawn with one of the big names in the first round, so I've got to put myself in contention for the weekend if that's going to happen. I'm out late in the second round so I will know what I need to do to make the cut."

Boyd went round the course with Ian Poulter and Paul Casey on Tuesday and had his final practice round yesterday (Wednesday).

"I know which areas I need to work on after going round the course," added Boyd.

"It was very tough with the windy conditions. There are a couple of long par-fours at which I've got to make sure I don't go in a bunker."
