Banbury United face a tough test tonight (Tuesday) when long-time leaders Farnborough visit Spencer Stadium.
The thaw at the weekend put the game in doubt but the pitch was passed fit today and with so many games postponed during the recent big freeze, boss Billy Jeffrey is hoping for a big crowd at Spencer Stadium.

"I would prefer us to be better prepar
ed for the game but it has been difficult to find somewhere to train regularly," said Jeffrey.

"We will have to defend much better against Farnborough than we have recently, they've got three quick strikers, and we will have to do much better."

With that in mind, Jeffrey has brought in Gloucester City defender James Baldwin on a short-term loan to bolster his defence and has also signed Wales youth international Ainsley McDonald on-loan from Rushden & Diamonds. McDonald is a versatile defender and can play anywhere along the backline.

Jeffrey also revealed that Declan Benjamin and David Stone have committed themselves to the club for the remainder of the season after signing contracts.

It will be a massive test for his young side but United will be looking to bounce back from the New Year's derby defeat at Brackley Town and shock the leaders.

United have slipped out of the play-offs and face some tough games in the next few weeks. But Jeffrey's youngsters have show great resilience this season and will be keen to recapture their earlier form.

Kick-off is 7.45pm at Spencer Stadium - see this week's Banbury Guardian for all United's news
