Village store manager set for first marathon attempt

A keen runner from Fenny Compton is in the final stages of preparing for the Stratford-upon-Avon Marathon.

Sharon Halleron-Kerr (pictured) is manager of Sulgrave Village Shop and will run the 26-mile course for Katharine House Hospice on Sunday, April 27.

Mrs Halleron-Kerr said: “I have been running for about 14 years and have taken part in a few half marathons. This will be my first marathon and I am looking forward to it. I always prefer the smaller events as the team spirit and camaraderie is brilliant.”

With the help of friends and village residents, the 44-year-old has raised about £600 so far. “If I could tip over £1,000 it would be absolutely great. Katharine House Hospice is a charity very close to lots of people in the village.” she said. Mrs Halleron-Kerr will be joined on the day by her partner Tim and has set herself a finishing target of under four hours.

The marathon route will see competitors travel out of Stratford and towards Long Marston before going through Welford-on-Avon and Luddington. To donate visit

Joanne Hawkins of Epwell is also running and will be donating the £250 she hopes to raise to the autism support group Parents Talking Asperger’s (PTA), which her 15-year-old son Ethan is a member of.

She said: “I’ve been an active member of PTA since it started just over two years ago and I want to help it to last for many years to come.

“We’re a voluntary group, not a charity, and don’t receive any external funding and I want to help in any way I can.”
