The owners of Wroxton House Hotel have achieved a prestigious international award following a rigorous two-day inspection.
Gill and John Smith have run the Best Western Plus hotel for about five years and have just been awarded a Best Western International Quality Award following an inspection in November.
Areas assessed included guest room and bathroom cleanliness and standards of public areas, including restaurant and leisure facilities.
The couple were presented with the award at the National Best Western Conference in Glasgow last month.
Mrs Smith said: “As private owners of the property it is very personal to us, so if someone does not like the colour of the bedroom we take it personally!
“We have a fabulous team of 35 members of staff who have been with us for quite some time, it is a lovely award to receive and this is a personal achievement for all of us.”
The award is only given to a select number of Best Western hotels throughout the world that reach an exemplary level of quality. Last year the hotel was ranked as one of TripAdvisor’s top 20 best hotels in the UK.
Mr and Mrs Smith refurbished the hotel’s restaurant and kitchen facilities earlier this year and are now looking to extend the car park and refurbish the hotel’s exterior.
Some parts of the building date back to 1649.
Mrs Smith said: “We have spent a lot of money to make improvements to the hotel and get it through the inspection.
“We were told the only reason the hotel didn’t pass the awards in the past was because we didn’t have electric keycards and a lift – something we couldn’t install due to the age of the building.
“About ten per cent of Best Western Hotels in the world have this award, so it sets us apart from others in the group.”
