Operation Christmas Child was given a welcome boost last week as pupils from St John’s Primary School in Banbury filled dozens of shoeboxes with gifts.
The appeal, run by Samaritan’s Purse collects shoeboxes filled with children’s toys, toiletries, stationery and clothing along with a £3 donation to be sent to disadvantaged children across the globe.
Eunice Harradine, area coordinator with the charity, said: “St John’s RC Primary has supported Operation Child for many years, at least 15 years.
“They give us a large number of shoeboxes every year. The children prepare the shoeboxes - that is they wrap and fill them themselves.”
Members of the public can drop off filled and wrapped boxes, along with the small donation to the Peoples Church in Banbury up until November 24.
Eunice said: “At the Peoples Church in Horsefair we check and pack the shoeboxes into cartons ready for shipment overseas.”
Last year’s appeal saw the residents of Banbury and the surrounding areas donate over 2,600 filled shoeboxes to the appeal and the aim is to better that this year.
