HUNDREDS of fundraisers will don red suits and white beards for the third annual Santa Fun Run on behalf of Katharine House Hospice.

On December 9 people of all ages will dress as Father Christmas to take part in a four-kilometre fun run around Banbury’s Spiceball Park or a shorter one-kilometre course for children, senior citizens and parents with buggies.

Registration for the event has now opened and already more than 100 people have signed up to take part.

Community fundraiser Valerie Carter said: “The last two Santa Fun Runs were just amazing and we had ‘Santas’ of all ages from near and far. It’s such a lovely atmosphere as well as great fun.

“We also had such wonderful support from the local community to help us stage this event. More than £52,000 was raised over the past two years for nursing care at the hospice.”

Olympic torchbearers from across the area will start the race at 11am while Radio Horton will be on hand to provide festive tunes. On completion of the course runners will be presented with a medal, hot drink and mince pie.

Last year more than 500 people took part in the run, which was started by Eastenders actress Jo Joyner (Tanya Jessop).

Entry to the race, which includes a Santa suit, costs £13 for adults, £7 for children aged between six and 16-years-old or £35 for a family of four. The closing date for entries is November 30. To sign up call 01295 812161.
