A teacher who has taught in Brackley for the past 39 years retired at the end of the Christmas term.

Gail Bragg, 61, taught generations of children at Southfield Primary and Nursery School, Brackley until she put away her blackboard chalk for the last time in favour of pursuing acting roles.

Mrs Bragg, of Bloxham, was surprised by pupils who had blown up balloons and presented her with an invitation to a party in January to celebrate her time at Southfield.

She was also given a picture of pupils’ faces spelling the word ‘nurture’. The youngsters then performed a song rehearsed for a special assembly to show Mrs Bragg how much she meant to them.

Mrs Bragg said she had experienced different sides of teaching throughout her career. She began by teaching the oldest children in the primary school and has since taught across the school, most recently in the nursery class.

She said: “I have had great fun at Southfield. It has been really pleasurable being part of the team here. I will miss it dreadfully.

“It’s just time for a change. I’d like to think about doing some minor acting roles.”

Mrs Bragg is married to comedian and actor Bobby Bragg. The couple have a daughter Rebecca and son Matthew.

She said: “My family is very supportive. We enjoy spending time together. It will be great to see them more often.”
