An application to build 230 homes and associated facilities north of Banbury have been refused by Cherwell District Council.

Councillors met at Bodicote House yesterday (Thursday) to discuss the proposal on land north of Dukes Meadow Drive and west of Southam Road, and they concluded although the council cannot demonstrate a five-year housing supply, the development could not be justified on the basis of land supply alone.

Councillor Michael Gibbard, Cherwell’s lead member for planning, said: “This proposal fails to maintain the area’s rural character with the result that there would have been unacceptable harm to the landscape and setting of Banbury.”
