Open farm day enjoyed by all

Farms across Banburyshire opened their doors to the public on Sunday as part of a national event to celebrate British farming.

Open Farm Sunday sees hundreds of farms across the country open for one day a year to show people young and old what is like to be a farmer.

Broughton Grounds Farm in North Newington was one of a few in the area to open its doors, raising more than £220 for charity and welcoming more than 200 people.

Andy Taylor, owner, said: “The day went really well and the number of people that came was just the right number for us, which is good.

“It is really important people know where their food comes from, rather than seeing it from their car windows as they drive past fields. It was really nice to see the children enjoying all the animals and having the freedom to walk around the farm.”

Activities on the day included sheep shearing, lamb weighing and egg collecting.

The farm has also recently welcomed the addition of a newborn calf.

Other farms to take part in the event included Hornton Grounds Farm and Newbottle Estate Farm in Hinton-in-the-Hedges. Visit for more details.
