Banbury’s model flying club is appealing to landlords who may have suitable fields available to rent after its current site became the subject of a compulsory purchase order by high-speed rail project HS2.

Banbury Model Flying Club is organising a fun day this Sunday at the field between Thorpe Mandeville and Sulgrave to highlight its plight in the hope a landowner will come forward with a suitable new home.

The open day at the BMFA affiliated club will feature top pilots from the world of radio controlled aircraft, including a Bishop Red Arrows duo who recently featured on the BBC’s One show and young helicopter flying sensation Andy Johnstone.

There will also be refreshments and a raffle with prizes such as radio controlled flying lessons.

Club committee member Stuart Bishop said: “We just want to get our name out there, raise awareness and find a new home.

“From our point of view there’s nothing like this field for 30 or 40 miles away, so it’s devastating for some of us.”

HS2 is making the compulsory purchase of the four -acre field in order to build a section of tunnel. The open day is free entry at the club’s home, which is half a mile from the Marston crossroads off the B4100 Welsh Lane.
