Naomi’s Cafe has teamed up with Banbury based potter Lucy Khan to offer anyone the chance to paint their own pottery.
The town has been without a paint your own pottery venue for a number of years and both Naomi and Lucy felt there was an opportunity to fill this void.
Lucy said: “Basically we have collaborated. There is no paint your own pottery place in Banbury, there used to be by the Church House but that closed down quite a long time ago.
“There was a Hen party that booked me to bring stuff down here and that’s when I spoke to Naomi and said ‘why don’t we do this as a permanent thing?”
No appointment is needed and budding artists can choose from a number of pre-sculpted designs, or bisques, to paint.
The designs range from functional mugs and plates to decorative forms such as fish and cars and cost as little as £6, there is an additional £4 studio fee that includes the paints. More exotic shapes and designs, however, can also be requested.
Lucy said: “If you wanted something special you could look online, see what I have got, choose a design and then contact me and I can make it available.”
After painting, each item is then glazed and fired during the once monthly firings at Lucy’s GoArty studio and returned to Naomi’s for collection.
The pottery painting is not just for children but is a great way for companies to team build, makes for an unusual birthday party or even as part of a Hen do.
Lucy said: “So now we have a venue in Banbury where you can paint your own pottery. You just turn up at Naomi’s. There’s no need book an appointment, you just turn up and paint.”
