A 30-year-old man has been given a 14-week prison sentence following a burglary in Chipping Norton.

Rikki Newby of North Street, Crewkerne in Somerset, pleaded guilty to one count of burglary following the incident at Lower Buildings in Sarsden, Chipping Norton last Wednesday. He was sentenced at Banbury Magistrates’ Court last Thursday.

During the offence, Newby forced entry to the building by jemmying a door before stealing a number of tools.

PC Claire Sadler, investigating officer at Witney CID, said: “I am glad that Newby admitted this offence and was sentenced accordingly. Burglary can often leave the victim anxious and out of pocket, and that is why Thames Valley take such offences extremely seriously.”

Police believe Newby may have been assisted by another offender. They are appealing to anyone with information to call PC Steven Bates on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
