An attacker who smashed a victim over the head with a metal pole has been jailed for 13 years.

Amir Arfi, now aged 21, of Middleton Road, Banbury, was sentenced at Oxford Crown Court last Thursday.

He had previously been found guilty of the crime – which took place on Boxing Day 2013 – following a trial earlier this year.

Arfi, who was convicted of wounding with intent, hit the 31-year-old victim over the head before another man stamped on the victim’s head.

Det Con Paddy O’Grady from Banbury CID, said: “I am extremely pleased with the lengthy sentence that Arfi has received for this very serious and violent crime.

“This sends a strong message to criminals that Thames Valley Police will not tolerate violence of this kind in our community.

“We are here to protect the community from people
like Arfi and a sentence like this demonstrates that we will
do everything in our power
to protect the public and bring violent criminals to justice.”

Arfi had eight previous convictions including one for robbery in 2010.

He was also ordered to pay a £120 victim surcharge.
