Woman treks Great Wall of China for cancer charity
A WOMAN from Banbury who faced the possibility of losing her little brother to cancer is trekking the Great Wall of China in aid of charity.
Samantha Davis, 27, of Grimsbury, is undertaking the challenge to raise money for CLIC Sargent – the children and young people’s cancer charity – which helped her family when her brother Adrian was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour at the age of 15.
Adrian is now 21 and doing well but Mrs Davis wants to give something back to the charity as it showed so much support.
She said: “The charity really helped my brother and my mum and I’m so grateful to them for looking after them.
“I’ve done Race for Life in the past but I’m always up for a challenge.”
Although the seven-day trek is not until September next year Mrs Davis has already started the thorough preparations by going to the gym regularly. She is hoping to raise a total of £3,500 and in the run up to the challenge she will be hosting events at home. She is currently organising a Christmas fair which will be held in Banbury Town Hall on December 1.
She said: “Being diagnosed with cancer is a frightening experience and the emotional, practical and financial implications of treatment are intensely challenging for the whole family.
“This cause is extremely close to my heart. I hope that all of you will help support me in the coming months, to help me reach my target and complete my challenge of trekking the Great Wall of China next year.”
