UPDATE: Woman sexually assaulted in Banbury’s People’s Park
INFORMATION is sought after a woman was sexually assaulted in Banbury in the early hours of this morning (Saturday).
The 46-year-old woman had been out in Banbury and was at the nearby taxi rank when a man tried to engage her in conversation.
She started to walk away and the man followed her.
As she walked home through People’s Park, the same man approached her and asked to put his arm around her and she replied “no”.
The woman was then pushed to the ground and the man tried to undo her belt.
The man is white, in his early twenties, about 5ft 6ins and was wearing jeans and either a woolly hat or a baseball cap.
Detective Constable Joe Stevenson, who is investigating the incident, said: “Fortunately the man ran away when the woman screamed.
“This is a distressing incident and I would like to make the reassurance that we are doing everything possible to find who is responsible.
“I urge anyone who was in the area at the time, or who has information to help the police investigation, to contact the police.”
The cordon which had been put in place was lifted at about 11am.
Anyone with information about the incident should call Mr Stevenson via the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 101.
