Snow warden scheme to bring community together
Cllr Kieron Mallon
The long and hard winter inspired Banbury Town Council leader Kieron Mallon to introduce a new snow warden scheme to the town.
During last Tuesday’s council meeting, Mr Mallon’s proposal was given the backing by the whole council to move forward.
Mr Mallon said the town council helps out with gritting some communal areas such as the cemeteries but added it is not the council’s responsibility to maintain the streets on the town’s residential areas which means there is a gap there.
He said: “We do provide grit bins but unfortunately there have been incidents when people take grit and use it for themselves,” he added this is something he hoped the scheme would help combat.
“Most importantly I think this will really add to the community spirit and it would be great if we could get as many people as possible involved.
“We’d love for community-minded volunteers to come forward to become snow wardens and take part in this exciting new scheme. They would get the training needed, appropriate clothing and equipment and we would deliver grit to them which they can keep in their garages or sheds.”
Those interested can contact the council on 01295 250340.
