Singer joins Banbury lights switch-on

A TALENTED Brackley singer will line up with Coronation Street’s David Platt and Jason Grimshaw at Banbury’s Christmas Lights Switch-On on Sunday, November 25.

Jenna Hone will open the afternoon stage show on the day before the Corrie stars appear at the top of the bill.

But the 25-year-old talent, who dreams of becoming a star herself, is thrilled to be appearing in the same show as two of television’s best-loved characters. She clinched her spot on this year’s Christmas Lights show by winning a Search for a Christmas Star competition which was organised to discover gifted local musicians. She said: “I’m so pleased to have won. I love singing and I want to be heard by everyone, but getting a break into show business is so difficult.

“I entered the TV show The Voice last year and reached the last 110 out of 30,000. That was a fantastic experience but appearing on Banbury’s Christmas Lights show with David and Jason will be wonderful.”

The event is organised by Banbury Town Council and town mayor Tony Ilott was one of the judges at the competition. He said: “Jenna will kick off the show in great style. She’s a talented singer and deserves a shot at the big time.

“It would be wonderful if her appearance on our Christmas Lights show could lead to bigger and better things.”

The stage show will begin at 2pm and concludes at 5.30pm with the switching on of the town’s Christmas decorations by actors Ryan Thomas (Jason Grimshaw) and Jack P Shepherd (David Platt). The programme will include Banbury Rock Choir, rock bands Transmission and Dance a la Plage and a Robbie Williams tribute act.
