Rail services return to normal

RAIL services have resumed on the line between Banbury and Oxford this morning after a man was killed on a level crossing at Yarnton yesterday.

Rail services through Heyford, King’s Sutton and Banbury were replaced with bus services yesterday afternoon after a freight train hit a car at a level crossing.

Emergency services were called to the Sandy Lane level crossing at around 3.40pm.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries but the passenger died at the scene.

The train involved was a Trafford Park to Southampton freight service.

British Transport Police officers are working to establish the full circumstances including how the car came to be on the tracks at the time.
