Pupils step into the shoes of forensics to solve crime

Children at Wroxton Primary School dressed up as forensic scientists to help solve a criminal mystery.
Pupils in Years Two, Three and Four took part in a CSI day on Monday, where they took fingerprints and made moulds of teeth to find out who had stolen items from the school.
The day coincided with the pupils’ new topic about the emergency services, and Nick Williams, class teacher, said: “The new topic was a chance to teach the children how they help people, and our headteacher thought it would be a fantastic way to learn more about what they do by organising something like this.”
The day was arranged by staff from Right Angle Events, who spent the whole day with pupils. They were able to review evidence before creating a courtroom where three suspects stood in the dock.
After a lengthy debate the children correctly identified headteacher April Guiness as the guilty culprit.
The pupils will now continue researching the different emergency services and will learn more about the community work each service does, such as the police and fire crews.
Mr Williams said: “The children really enjoyed the whole day, and were really engaged and motivated by it. This is the sort of thing they would usually watch on television so it is great to be able to bring it all to life and in an interactive way.
“We always try to do something a bit different from the norm, and aim to get the most out of the children. We want to do more things like this.”
